Tongeren, places of interest

Tongeren, Belgium’s first city, exudes history with his roman ruins, medieval remains and ecclesiastical treasures.

Admire the idyllic beguinage and the imposing belfry, both on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy a visit to the beautiful Basilica and the Teseum, the museum site at the Basilica of Our Lady.

Stroll around Roman Tongeren with its narrow streets, picturesque squares and lovely antique shops. After a walk through Tongeren’s rich heritage you can taste a fresh local beer on The Main Market with the statue of Ambiorix, the most famous inhabitant of the City.

The place to be on Sunday morning is the Antiques and Collectables market, the largest in the Benelux.

Limburg is a true paradise for cyclists with more than 1.800km well-maintained cycle pads through rolling hills and lovely villages.

Tongeren is located at the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euregio and is a great base from which to explore the city’s of Liège, Maastricht and Aachen.
